Please join us for an inside view into the quantum computing world by a female COO who has been deeply involved in building the quantum computing industry and its impact on us, while supporting other women working on emerging technologies.

Summary

Quantum computing is often described as a revolutionary technology—but what does that really mean in practice, and what does it take to build an entirely new industry around it? In this talk, guest speaker Dr. Tomoyo Matsuoka will introduce the fundamentals of quantum computing and how it differs from classical approaches. She will also share her journey as a female COO in the quantum technology space over the past six years, including the challenges of building teams, shaping an emerging industry, and navigating uncertainty. Through the lens of our work at QunaSys—applying quantum computing to real-world problems such as materials discovery and chemistry—She hopes to offer both a practical and personal perspective on how we strive to turn a promising technology into meaningful impact.

Profile

Dr. Tomoyo Matsuoka is the Chief Operating Officer at QunaSys, a quantum computing company focused on applications in chemistry and materials science. She works at the intersection of science and business, leading partnerships and ecosystem building. With a Ph.D. in materials chemistry from Kyoto University and a background in consulting at Arthur D. Little Japan, she brings both technical and strategic perspectives. Over the past six years, she has been deeply involved in building the quantum computing industry—navigating uncertainty, scaling organizations, and helping translate emerging technologies into real-world impact.
